¨Thanks again for the donation! Recently we took eight puppies from the killing station. They were dumped there and crawled over each other in fear. Such young puppies that have to suffer so much stress and be afraid, that is always heartbreaking to see and certainly not good for their constitution. We received them a few days later, they were – or better yet: seemed – healthy but were very scared. However, a few days later, when they started eating well and slowly feeling more relaxed, one became very ill, and we feared the worst. And yes, they tested positive for Parvo.
It was immediately all hands-on deck, our entire rescue center on alert. They all went to the clinic and were closely cared for. Everything was done to save their lives, but unfortunately one of them did not make it. The costs of controlling this disease are enormous and the care is very intensive. Thanks to our great team, the others were saved. To date, 7 are still alive, but they will remain under close supervision of our clinic for a while.
Parvo is still rare, but here in Spain we unfortunately still see it regularly and it is always our greatest fear. We do everything we can to stop it, but every now and then we are still the victims and that, in addition to the heavy effort it requires from all of us, is always a heavy financial blow.
These young lives have almost been saved, but in this way we want to show that as a rescue you are open and exposed to everything you can imagine. We are not asked anything, nothing is explained, they are here at our door, and all you can do is do your best and hope that you can make it all work.
The costs for these puppies can amount to more than 500 euros per dog. We have therefore used your donation of EUR 743 for September for this project! So far, all seven of them have made it through! ¨
